Best Fuel Credit Card in India (2026): 10 Picks Compared

I have used credit cards for 20 years, and for the last 8 I have not paid for flights, hotels, forex markup or other service fees because of how I use them. That is why I can tell you which card suits which driver. Finding the best fuel credit card is mostly about one thing: matching the card to the pump you actually use. Below are 10 cards, with the fees and the catches that most lists skip.

The short answer: which fuel card should you pick?

If IndianOil is your pump and you fuel heavily, start with the IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA. If BPCL is your pump, the BPCL SBI Card OCTANE is the usual upgrade and the basic BPCL SBI Card is the cheap start. If HPCL is near you, look at the ICICI or IDFC FIRST options. If you fuel anywhere, look at the Standard Chartered card, but its caps are tight.

  • XTRA: the highest quoted fuel value-back, if you are loyal to IndianOil.
  • OCTANE: the best-known BPCL card with lounge access.
  • BPCL SBI Card: a low-fee first fuel card.
  • Axis IndianOil: 4% value back at a modest fee.
  • HDFC IndianOil: easy if you already bank with HDFC.
  • ICICI HPCL: fuel plus everyday-spend rewards.
  • Power+: HPCL rewards at a low fee.
  • Power: the cheapest card here.
  • Jio-BP Mobility+: no annual fee, for Jio-bp users.
  • Super Value Titanium: not tied to any pump, but small caps.

How fuel credit cards actually save you money

Three things are mixed together in the headline numbers. First, reward points or value-back on fuel spend. Second, cashback, which is simpler. Third, the 1% fuel surcharge waiver, which the card removes from your bill at eligible pumps. It usually has a minimum and maximum transaction range and a monthly cap, so it is not a flat 1% on every fill-up. Check the exact range on the bank's website.

Here is the monthly maths I use. Say you spend ₹8,000 a month on fuel and a card gives you 4% back. That is ₹320 a month, or ₹3,840 a year. A card with a ₹500 fee still leaves you well ahead. But if a card caps rewards each month, the headline percentage only applies up to the cap. Always read the cap before the rate.

Pick your pump first

Co-branded cards pay well at only one oil company. If the nearest pump on your daily route is HPCL, an IndianOil card will earn you very little. Pick the pump first, then the card.

If you fuel rarely, or at whichever pump is closest, a general cashback card can beat a fuel card. You can see some in my list of the best all-round credit cards.

The 10 best fuel credit cards

1. IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA Credit Card

This is quoted as the highest fuel value-back, about 8.5% at IndianOil outlets, made up of reward points plus the 1% surcharge waiver. The IndianOil RBL Bank XTRA has an annual fee of ₹1,500, waived on ₹2.75 lakh annual spend. It suits heavy IndianOil users spending roughly ₹8,000 or more a month on fuel. Estimated eligibility is income of ₹35,000+ a month and CIBIL 700+. The catch: rewards are capped each month, and the waiver target is high. Check current caps and any recent changes.

2. BPCL SBI Card OCTANE

The most-cited alternative to the XTRA. It offers about 7.25% value-back at BPCL on fuel and bonus categories, with lounge access, which suits people who also spend on groceries, dining and movies. The fee is about ₹1,499, waived at about ₹2 lakh annual spend. The catch: sources differ on rates and fees, and I do not have it in my database, so verify the current rates and caps with SBI Card.

3. BPCL SBI Card

The easy first fuel card. The BPCL SBI Card costs ₹499 a year (joining fee also ₹499), waived on ₹1 lakh annual spend. Estimated eligibility is ₹20,000+ income and CIBIL 650+. It is a good fit for beginners and moderate BPCL users. The catch: the value-back is lower than the Octane's. Confirm the fuel reward rate today.

4. IndianOil Axis Bank Credit Card

This is the Axis co-brand for IndianOil, with 4% value back on IndianOil fuel and up to 1,250 bonus points on your first fuel transaction. The IndianOil Axis Bank card has a ₹500 annual fee and ₹500 joining fee, with estimated eligibility of ₹15,000+ income. It suits IndianOil users who want a mid-fee card. The catch: 4% is decent, not top-tier, and there are no stated caps in my data, so check them.

5. IndianOil HDFC Bank Credit Card

A mainstream co-brand: 5% fuel points at IndianOil outlets, on groceries and on bill payments, plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver. The IndianOil HDFC Bank card costs ₹500 a year. Eligibility is an estimated ₹12,000+ income, but it needs CIBIL 750+. It is easy to get if you already bank with HDFC. The catch: points are not the same as cash, and caps apply, so check them with HDFC.

6. ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card

Features include 5% savings on fuel at HPCL pumps and HP Pay, 20 points per ₹100 on daily essentials, one domestic lounge visit a quarter (with ₹75,000 prior-quarter spend) and 24/7 roadside assistance. The ICICI HPCL Super Saver has a ₹500 annual fee, waived on ₹1.5 lakh spend. The catch: it is tied to HPCL, and the 5% rate has caps, so check them before relying on it.

7. IDFC FIRST Power+ Credit Card

A low fee of ₹499 with high HPCL fuel rewards up to a per-cycle cap, plus rewards on FASTag, grocery and utilities, and a RuPay network. See IDFC FIRST Power+. For UPI use, my guide to RuPay credit cards helps. The catch: sources conflict on the headline rate, and some call it invite-only. Check availability.

8. IDFC FIRST Power Credit Card

At ₹199 a year, the IDFC FIRST Power is the cheapest HPCL co-brand here, offering roughly 3.5% savings on HPCL fuel. It suits two-wheeler owners and people who do not spend much. The catch: the rate is modest, and you should verify whether it is still open to new applicants.

9. IndusInd Bank Jio-BP Mobility+ Credit Card

The Jio-BP Mobility+ has no annual fee. The joining fee is ₹499, waived on ₹10,000 spend within 90 days. It gives 12 Smiles per ₹100 at Jio-bp, Castrol and Wildbean (capped at 1,200 a month), up to 4% fuel savings with surcharge waiver, and roadside assistance in 6 major cities. The catch: it only helps if Jio-bp pumps are on your route, and eligibility is an estimated ₹35,000+ income.

10. Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium Credit Card

Not tied to one oil company. The Super Value Titanium gives 5% cashback on fuel, phone and utility bills. The fee is ₹750, waived on ₹90,000 spend. The catch: the caps are tight: fuel cashback is ₹200 a month and ₹100 per transaction. Verify current terms and whether it takes new applicants.

Which card for which driver

  • Daily commuter: a card for your nearest pump. XTRA if IndianOil and heavy spend, Octane if BPCL.
  • Salaried car owner: HDFC IndianOil if you bank with HDFC, or ICICI HPCL Super Saver for fuel plus household spends.
  • Road-trip driver: Super Value Titanium for any-pump use, but remember its small caps. Highway pumps vary, so do not rely on only one brand.
  • Two-wheeler owner, low spend: IDFC FIRST Power at ₹199, or the Jio-BP Mobility+ with its zero annual fee.
  • Self-employed, cab or delivery driver: pick the pump you fill at most, then the highest rate. Check how the card treats commercial usage.
  • First-time card user: BPCL SBI Card or IndianOil Axis Bank, both low-fee, with moderate income needs.
  • Premium spender who also fuels up: Octane or XTRA, with lounge access on the Octane.
  • Not loyal to any pump: Super Value Titanium, or a general cashback card.

For a free or very low fee choice, the Jio-BP Mobility+ and IDFC FIRST Power are the lowest here. Semi-paid cards pay off when your fuel spend clears the fee comfortably.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Ignoring monthly caps, which can make a high rate far less useful.
  • Paying through wallets or apps that may be excluded from rewards.
  • Carrying a balance. Interest will wipe out any fuel savings.
  • Choosing the wrong pump brand for your route.
